Kenya is mourning the death of former Likuyani Member of Parliament Dr. Enoch (Enock) Kibunguchy, whose sudden passing has sparked grief and renewed calls for transparency and accountability. Dr. Kibunguchy died on December 23, 2025, while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Eldoret, according to family members and local media reports .Dr. Kibunguchy served as MP for Lugari Constituency before its subdivision, after which Likuyani became a standalone constituency. During his tenure in Parliament, he was known for championing grassroots development, education, and health initiatives in Kakamega County and the wider Western Kenya region. His leadership style earned him respect across political divides, with many remembering him as a calm and dedicated public servant.

However, the circumstances surrounding his death have raised serious concerns. Family members have publicly questioned the sudden nature of his illness and are demanding a full investigation to establish the exact cause of death. In statements to the media, relatives suggested the possibility of food poisoning and called for a comprehensive post-mortem examination to clear any doubts . They have urged authorities to handle the matter with urgency and transparency to reassure the public and uphold trust in investigative processes. The death has drawn widespread reactions from political leaders and members of the public. National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula led leaders in paying tribute, describing Dr. Kibunguchy as a committed leader who served his constituents with integrity and humility . Messages of condolence have also poured in from former colleagues, local leaders, and residents of Likuyani, many of whom credit him with improving local infrastructure and advocating for community welfare.

Dr. Kibunguchy’s passing adds to a series of recent deaths involving Kenyan politicians, a trend that has heightened public sensitivity around the safety and well-being of public figures. Analysts note that such incidents often fuel speculation, making timely and credible investigations essential to prevent misinformation and ease public anxiety. As the family awaits the outcome of medical examinations and any official investigations, attention now turns to funeral arrangements and how his legacy will be remembered. For many in Western Kenya, Dr. Enoch Kibunguchy will be remembered not just as a former MP, but as a leader deeply rooted in his community. His death marks a significant loss to Kenyan politics and underscores the importance of transparency when prominent public figures pass away under unclear circumstances.
