Showmax Pro, the streaming service’s sports offering, will be phased out by November 30.
The change comes as Showmax plans to relaunch its platform and focus exclusively on streaming Premier League soccer matches, the most popular league in Africa.
“With the upcoming relaunch of Showmax, our sport offering will focus exclusively on the Premier League,” the company said in a statement.
Showmax said select existing subscribers in South Africa will be offered a deal bundling DStv Stream and Showmax at the same price as their current Showmax Pro subscription. That will give them access to more live sports and streaming channels from SuperSport.
Subscribers in other African markets where Showmax Pro is offered will get a similar DStv Stream bundle.

“But we want to make sure that our Showmax Pro customers are still able to access the sport they love,” the company said.
Showmax Pro launched in 2019, offering live sports from leagues like the NBA and La Liga in addition to Showmax’s regular on-demand catalog.
The service grew popular in Africa but will now narrow its focus. Showmax said the decision is part of “shaking things up” as it plans a relaunch.
Current Showmax Pro subscribers will stop being charged after October 30 and can view until their subscription ends. The streaming service said eligible current customers will receive emails with details about the new DStv bundle deals.
