The National Construction Authority has reappointed Maurice Akech as executive director and registrar of contractors for another three-year term, the agency announced Friday.

Akech, who holds the honorific title Member of the Order of the Burning Spear (MBS), first joined the authority in 2019 and has since led efforts to improve industry regulations and increase operational efficiency, according to the authority’s statement.

“Under the leadership of Eng. Maurice Akech, the Authority has witnessed tremendous growth and development,” said Mercy Okiro, vice chair of the authority’s board. She cited Akech’s work on spearheading stakeholder collaborations, updating industry codes of conduct, and enhancing enforcement.

The construction sector is considered key to achieving Kenya’s development goals, including affordable housing expansion. Akech’s reappointment “will entrench the Authority’s contribution to the country’s economic development,” Okiro said.

Akech said he was “honored to continue serving the vital construction industry.” He promised to focus on sustainable and inclusive growth that benefits all Kenyans during his next term.

The National Construction Authority regulates Kenya’s construction sector under the 2011 National Construction Authority Act.

Akech’s new three-year term began September 27.
