Senior officers in the National Police Service (NPS) are currently convened at the Administration Police Training College in Embakasi for a critical security meeting.
The session, presided over by the acting Inspector General (IG) Gilbert Masengeli, has brought together regional commanders from across the country to deliberate on the state of security ahead of the Nane Nane demonstration slated for Thursday, August 8.
This meeting marks the first official gathering called by Masengeli since he assumed the role of acting IG. Among those in attendance are DCI boss Amin Mohamed, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Eliud Langat, and other formation commanders.
Masengeli emphasized the police service’s commitment to addressing safety issues and ensuring the protection of Kenyans. “Our primary goal is to ensure the safety and security of all citizens during this period. We are taking proactive measures to manage the situation effectively,” he stated.
The security convention comes at a crucial time as the country prepares for the anticipated Nane Nane demonstration. The police leadership is focused on maintaining order and preventing any potential disruptions that may arise during the event.
DIG Eliud Langat, who was recently sworn in alongside Gilbert Masengeli on July 26, reiterated the importance of coordinated efforts within the police service.
“We are united in our mission to safeguard the public. Our collaboration and strategic planning are key to achieving this objective,” Langat noted.
The meeting also sets the stage for the upcoming parliamentary vetting of Douglas Kanja, scheduled for Thursday next week. Kanja’s suitability for the IG post will be assessed, following the resignation of Japhet Koome in July. If confirmed, Kanja will take over from Masengeli, who has been serving on an interim basis.
