Kioni affirms Uhuru Kenyatta’s position on Kenya Kwanza

Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta has firmly denied any instructions to his followers to join the Kenya Kwanza government, despite recent political tensions. This stance was confirmed by Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni, who emphasized that Kenyatta’s position remains consistent with his pre-election stance.

In a statement on Sunday, Kioni asserted, “Uhuru has not instructed any of us to join Kenya Kwanza or a government that is skyrocketing the cost of living.” This declaration responds to claims made by opposition leader Raila Odinga, who suggested that Kenyatta had asked him to speak with President William Ruto amidst the recent Gen Z protests.

Kioni condemned what he described as “doublespeak” from opposition figures now supporting the Kenya Kwanza administration, despite their previous criticism of it.

He reaffirmed Uhuru’s commitment to addressing the issues faced by Kenyans and criticized the current administration, stating, “Kenya Kwanza is a sinking ship” and implying that it is unlikely to serve its full term.

Echoing Uhuru’s previous statements, Kioni stressed that the former president’s position before the 2022 elections has not wavered.

“When you talk of Uhuru, his mind is very clear; he is the one who told Kenyans not to go to UDA, he cannot now tell people to go to Kenya Kwanza,” Kioni explained.

Looking ahead to the 2027 elections, Kioni assured that the Azimio coalition, which includes Jubilee, remains united and focused on future electoral success. He confidently stated, “We are going to form the government and in 2029, there are those who will come to join us, and we will receive them that time.”
