Standard Group PLC appoints Marion Gathoga-Mwangi as new Group CEO

The Board of Directors of Standard Group PLC has announced the appointment of Marion Gathoga-Mwangi as the new Group Chief Executive Officer, effective July 1, 2024.

Gathoga-Mwangi, an accomplished senior executive with over 26 years of local and international experience, brings a wealth of expertise in commercial operations, business excellence, and general management across multiple sectors.

The position was previously held in an acting capacity by Joe Munene. Gathoga-Mwangi’s impressive career includes executive roles with leading companies such as The Linde Group PLC, African Oxygen Pty (AFROX), and BOC Kenya PLC, where she served as Healthcare Director, leading the access to medical gases in Africa, and Business Unit Director of the Bulk and Onsite manufacturing Business in South Africa.

Prior to her new appointment, Gathoga-Mwangi had held senior leadership positions at Cadbury Kenya and East Africa Limited, Unga Limited Plc (Seaboard Corporation), and Parmalat Botswana Pty in Gaborone, Botswana. She also had a long and distinguished career with Bayer East Africa.

Gathoga-Mwangi’s expertise extends beyond her corporate experience, as she serves as a Non-Executive Director at leading companies, including BAT Kenya PLC, BOC Kenya PLC, and the Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM). She holds a Bachelor of Science (Honors) Degree in International Business Administration from the United States International University (USIU) Kenya and is a Continuous Improvement (KAIZEN) practitioner, having led successful corporate turnarounds.

In addition to her corporate responsibilities, Gathoga-Mwangi is a part-time Academic Director of the Women’s Leadership program at Strathmore Business School (SBS).
