Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has stirred the political landscape by announcing his intention to run for president in the 2027 general elections, contingent upon one condition: if Raila Odinga chooses to contest. In a social media post on Sunday, February 16, 2025, Salasya declared his presidential bid, emphasizing that he would seek the presidency to ensure that Odinga does not receive any votes from the Western region.

“Raila akisimama president I will be also on the presidential ballot to ensure he doesn’t get any single vote from Western. A new Kenya has begun and change is coming, freedom is coming, and as young leaders, we shall stand firm with young people,” Salasya wrote. His remarks underscore his commitment to advocating for youth leadership and what he views as a new political era for Kenya.

Salasya also expressed his thoughts on Odinga’s recent defeat in the race for the African Union Commission (AUC) Chairperson seat, suggesting that it marks the end of Odinga’s political career. According to Salasya, the veteran politician has no future in the 2027 elections. He went on to propose a retirement plan for Odinga, which would include a security detail, official vehicles, and a retirement home.

“There’s no Plan B for him. The only plan for him is to be put on retirement benefits with 10 securities, three vehicles, one chase car, a retirement home in Narok atakuwa akibadilisha na Opodo farm in Bondo, 2 doctors etc,” Salasya said. His proposal highlights his belief that Odinga’s time in active politics should come to an end, with a comfortable retirement package replacing any further political ambitions.
