Four suspects linked to the tragic death of twin babies in Dololo Boji village, Dukana Sub-County, Marsabit County, appeared before a Marsabit court on Monday, January 27, 2025. The accused—Bokayo Jaro Wario, Konso Isacko Godana, Umuro Isacko Godana, and Isacko Godana Adano—are facing charges in connection with the murder of the fraternal twins, who were born at Dukana Health Center on Sunday, January 19.
During the court session, the prosecution informed the court that the suspects were believed to have been involved in the deaths of the infants, who were allegedly strangled. Authorities suspect that the killings may be tied to an outdated cultural belief in the community, where firstborn twins are sometimes seen as bringing bad omens to a family or clan.
At this stage, the suspects were not required to enter pleas. The court, however, granted the prosecution’s request to detain the accused for 14 days to allow police to complete their investigations. “The suspects will remain in custody while the police continue to gather evidence, including statements from key witnesses and conducting mental examinations,” stated Principal Magistrate Simon Arome.
Additionally, the prosecution sought permission to exhume the bodies of the deceased twins for a postmortem examination. Magistrate Arome granted this request, directing the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to complete the exhumation process within 10 days.
As part of the proceedings, the court also ordered that the first suspect, the mother of the twins, undergo a medical examination to confirm her age and ensure she receives any necessary treatment. Bokayo, who claims to be 20 years old, did not object to the exhumation or the police’s request to detain her. The second suspect, Konso, initially opposed the exhumation but later consented to the court’s decision.
The case is scheduled for mention on February 4, 2025, as investigations into the tragic deaths continue.
