Machakos Public Service Board Disbanded Over Sexual Harassment, Nepotism

The Machakos County Public Service Board has been removed from office by the county assembly over gross misconduct and misuse of office.

The motion for the removal of the board members was tabled by labour committee chairman and Deputy Speaker Stephen Mwanthi.

The secretary of the board, Onesmus Muia Mutisya and members Cecilia Mbinya Sereka and Stella Ndinda Muthoka were removed from office via a majority vote by the county legislators, with 48 in support, 9 against and 1 abstention.

Board chairman Kioko wa Luka was spared from the removal after tendering his resignation upon learning of the looming ouster.

In the motion, Mwanthi argued that one of the members was guilty of sexual harassment against job seekers.

“One had a record of sexual harassment against job seekers, which painted a negative image of the board, while others were involved in nepotism,” said Mwanthi.

The members were also accused of furthering nepotism, where their close friends and relatives secured jobs in the county without following due process.
