Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has launched investigations into an alleged match-fixing scandal, provisionally suspending three referees, a player, and a team manager from all football-related activities, according to a statement released on Friday.
The governing body said its Integrity Department is probing the involvement of referee Meshack Omondi, referee Jacqueline Barongo, referee Stephen Adeye, FC Talanta player Kevin Otieno Olang’o, and Kibra United team manager Abdulkarim Ameie in suspected match manipulation.
“In light of these allegations, the above-named individuals have been provisionally suspended…until the investigations are concluded and a determination is made by the FKF Disciplinary Committee,” FKF Secretary-General Barry Otieno stated.
The federation has directed all members and the public not to have any contact with the suspended parties while the probe is ongoing.
The announcement deals a blow to Kenyan football’s integrity and highlights the persistent challenge of preserving the sport’s reputation amid corruption allegations globally. Match-fixing syndicated have infiltrated competitions at all levels, driven by lucrative betting markets.
