Kenya Airways halts Mauritius flights as cyclone threat looms

Kenya Airways has temporarily suspended all flights to Mauritius following an urgent cyclone warning issued by the country’s weather authorities. The suspension takes immediate effect due to the closure of Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport (MRU).

The disruption comes as Mauritius braces for the impact of a Tropical Cyclone Class 3 system, expected to hit the island nation and potentially affect neighboring countries. Local government agencies have issued alerts, though the full extent and duration of the cyclone’s impact remain uncertain.

Kenya Airways acknowledged the inconvenience caused by the flight suspension, emphasizing its commitment to passenger safety. “We sincerely apologise to our customers for any inconvenience this may cause and want to reassure them that their safety and that of our staff is our unwavering priority,” the airline stated.

Passengers affected by the cancellations are advised to check the airline’s website for real-time updates or contact Kenya Airways’ customer service through WhatsApp or X (formerly Twitter). “Affected customers are advised to visit our website, Flight Status (Kenya-airways.com), to confirm their new flight schedule,” the airline advised.

As the situation unfolds, Kenya Airways has pledged to keep customers informed, with updates expected once local authorities provide clearance for the resumption of flights. “As this is a developing situation, we are committed to keeping you informed. We will update you as soon as we have new developments,” the statement concluded.
