The infamous ‘Mathe Wa Ngara’ was recently arrested by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Nairobi CBD, on allegations of drug trafficking and possession of Kshs 13.4 million stack of cash seized earlier this month in Parklands.
The controversial Kenyan businesswoman, officially identified as ‘Nancy Kigunzu Indoveria’ is currently being held at the DCI headquarters, where she is supposedly undergoing questioning. The suspect had earlier moved to petition the court to halt what she perceived as her imminent apprehension, seeking to be granted anticipatory bail. Nancy claimed in court that authorities arrested her unfairly and fabricated accusations in a tactic meant to intimidate her.
Police also arrested the suspect’s two sons, aged 16 and 17, and Miss Theresiah Wanjiku during the raid, who is currently still in custody. According to the authorities, 26 sacks of marijuana were seized alongside the money. Danston Omari, Ms Kigunzu defence counsel, has since appeared in a court at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), bringing a motion seeking to bar the police from detaining the three for an additional three days.
Nancy informed the court that she had only learnt of plans to arrest her through social media and ran a legitimate business enterprise. She reiterated her commitment to being an upright and law-abiding citizen, asserting her history of steering clear of activities that are detrimental to the law.

She further added that the detention of her two sons constitutes malicious intent by the police and a clear disregard for the rule of law. Law enforcement had been tracking Ms. Kigunzo for a considerable period, with her pursuit stretching as far back as 2018, when the National Intelligence Service (NIS) labelled her as a notorious drug peddler.
Kigunzu has reportedly been accused of evading arrest on multiple occasions, including compromising various police officers in Nairobi stations. She is alleged to have been arrested in June 2022, after which she was released on a Kshs 500,000 fine.
