Solar Power

A report from Huawei named ‘Smart PV Top 10 Trends’ says that solar power is poised for high growth momentum that will see it replace fossil fuels such as coal and fuel oil in power generation by 2050. The amount of power generated from solar panels is projected to constitute almost half of the total amount of electricity consumed in the coming future. This is as it moves up to become one of the primary sources of renewable energy.

The Huawei report released during the recently held Huawei Digital Power Partner Summit in Nairobi drafts a number of expected scenarios for the growth and development of the solar power industry. It notes that the industry is expected to deepen its focus on equipment security, with digital signatures, safety from external attacks, and central management of digital certificates gaining prominence. Southern Africa Digital Power Smart PV Vice President, Mr. Victor Koyier, stated that solar is an evolving technology that is anticipated to go through more iterations with the passage of time. He added that by 2027, solar energy will constitute 60% of renewable energy installations. Reports say that in the first half of 2023, the demand for solar was already 20% higher compared to a similar time last year.

Gradual advancements in technology and government policies have over the years elevated its reliability, with the focus now shifting to the storage packs and the hostile environment in which the equipment is installed. This will include the establishment of solar farms, which will deliver electricity to the national and local grids. Engineers have tested the impact of conditions like high salt mist, high temperatures, and humidity on solar equipment and noted that as the future unfolds, more installations will be in commercial and industrial facilities and also residential homes, which are expected to be fitted in varied environments.
