Veteran Journalist Catherine Kasavuli is dead.
Her demise was confirmed by Kenya Broadcasting Cooperation (KBC) Managing Director Samuel Maina.
“Kasavuli passed on yesterday night. Her death related to the cancer ailment that she’s been bravely fighting in the recent past,” Maina told the media.
Kasavuli had been battling cervical cancer and was receiving treatment at the Kenyatta National Hospital(KNH)since October 26, 2022, until her demise on Thursday night, December 29, 2022.
The KNH blood donation unit had requested the public to donate blood for Kasavuli via a blood request form last month. Kasavuli’s family had also asked Kenyans for financial assistance to help her offset her bill at KNH.

She was recalled by various journalists, as a mentor who held the hands of many media professionals throughout their careers.
Taking to her social media pages the late Kasavuli stated that October was a crazy month for her but had faith in God’s breakthrough.
“Last month has been crazy for me, I want to take this moment and appreciate my family, colleagues, doctors, and the Catherine Kasavuli foundation,”
“To special people that have come forth to donate blood, may God bless you, may He enrich your beautiful souls, may He meet with the desires of your heart,” she wrote.

Many people had referred to Kasavuli as the “TV queen” since the 1980s.
Kasavuli began her career in 1980 as a radio continuity announcer at the Voice of Kenya, which was afterward renamed KBC. She later transferred from radio to KBC television in 1985.
She enrolled in the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication for professional training two years later (KIMC).In March 1990, she joined KTN, becoming the first news anchor in Kenya to broadcast live.
She left KTN for Citizen TV in 2007, where she served as a news anchor until transitioning to business relations positions and taking a break in 2015.
In July 2021, Kasavuli made a comeback to television, hosting the Legend Edition show every weekend on KBC.
she died at the age of 60.
