The  National Police Service has denied allegations that Sadam Buke, a resident of Isiolo County, was abducted, confirming instead that he was lawfully arrested as part of an ongoing security operation.

In a press release issued on Wednesday, the police clarified that Buke is in custody alongside other suspects, with authorities linking him to the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA), a militant group operating in Isiolo and Marsabit Counties.

“The attention of the National Police Service has been drawn to information circulating on social media alleging that one Sadam Buke from Isiolo County has been abducted,” the statement read. “We wish to clarify that Sadam Buke is in lawful custody alongside others.”

Authorities allege that Buke played a significant role in OLA operations, describing him as “a key facilitator and coordinator” of the group. His arrest took place during the ongoing Operation Ondoa Jangili, a security crackdown targeting criminal and militant activities in northern Kenya.

The statement further indicated that Buke and other suspects are set to face court proceedings in the coming days. “He and others are expected to be arraigned in court,” police noted.

The press release, signed by Muchiri Nyaga on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, emphasized that law enforcement agencies remain committed to upholding constitutional human rights and freedoms. “We reiterate our commitment to comply with constitutional standards of human rights and fundamental freedoms,” it concluded.

The arrest comes amid rising security concerns in Kenya’s northern counties, where militant groups have been accused of orchestrating cross-border attacks. Security agencies have ramped up counterterrorism and anti-banditry operations in the region, aiming to dismantle networks supporting organized crime and insurgent activities.

The police did not disclose further details regarding the charges Buke will face or the evidence linking him to the OLA. However, they reaffirmed that his detention was conducted within the confines of the law.
