Jumia Kenya is adding E-vans, also referred to as Tuk-Tuks, to its delivery fleet nationwide.

The industry leader in e-commerce has teamed up with BILITI Electric, a producer of EV solutions based in California.

The Taskmanvariant from BILITI Electric is intended for last-mile business delivery. It has a top speed of 50 Kmph, a payload capacity of 500 kg, and a range of 100 km per charge.

The rider may quickly recharge their car with the help of BILITI’s SmartSwapp technology by simply swapping out the vehicle’s battery.

The two believe that this collaboration is a crucial step in Africa’s development of the e-mobility sector and the achievement of its objectives for environmental sustainability.

“Leveraging technology to improve everyday lives in Africa” is the first pillar of JUMIA’s sustainability strategy. “We are committed to building a supply chain that will minimize the environmental impact of our operations. The introduction of these e-Vans (Tuk-Tuk) to our delivery fleet is an integral milestone in our journey towards realizing our ESG objectives,” said Jumia Kenya CEO Juan Seco.

These electric vans give access to better air quality and economic growth. By converting conventional bikes to these electric vans, delivery personnel may deliver more products swiftly and effectively while also increasing their income.

Around 92% of the nation’s electricity consumption in 2020 came from renewable sources, including hydropower, geothermal, solar PV, and wind. Kenya wants to use only sustainable energy by 2030.
