Milimani High court denies bail for murder suspect Kevin Kang’ethe, citing flight risk concerns

The Milimani High Court has rejected the bail application of murder suspect Kevin Kang’ethe until an extradition hearing is conducted by the same court. This decision follows the opposition raised by the prosecution team, led by Vincent Monda and Magdaline Nduati, who highlighted concerns about Kang’ethe being a flight risk.

They pointed to his swift departure from the United States after the alleged offense, triggering an Interpol red alert and a warrant for his arrest issued by a US court.

Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina reiterated the prosecution’s concerns during the verdict, emphasizing Kang’ethe’s flight from the United States following the alleged murder of his girlfriend. Due to Kang’ethe’s past record of escaping custody and the seriousness of the charges, the magistrate decided to keep him in custody until the hearing.

Similarly, Onyina dismissed Kang’ethe’s request to be held at a medium-security facility and instead directed that he be remanded at a maximum-security facility, citing apprehensions about his potential to flee. The matter has been scheduled for hearing on April 29, 2024.
