The prime suspect in the murder of three women abducted from Eastleigh, Nairobi, will remain in police custody while detectives continue their investigation. Makadara Senior Principal Magistrate Mary Njagi ordered Hashim Dagane Muhumed to be held at Ruaraka Police Station until December 2, 2024, when police will present him in court for further directions.

Dagane was arrested on November 3, 2024, by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), following a public tip-off. He is being investigated for the deaths of three relatives: Dahabo Daud Said, Musayba Abdi Mohamed, and Amina Abdirashid Dahir. According to Police Sergeant Mohammed Hassan, Dagane allegedly used a Nissan Note, registration number KDQ 718Y, to pick up the victims from their residences. The vehicle was later found abandoned in Nairobi’s Wakulima area, with Dagane identified as its owner.

Sergeant Hassan requested extended detention, explaining that the case required a more in-depth investigation. “The police have a significant task to unravel this murder syndicate,” he stated, emphasizing the complexity of the case. Hassan noted that detectives are conducting call data analysis, forensic examinations, and gathering witness statements, which he said are essential steps in the investigation.

Magistrate Njagi granted the request, allowing police the 21-day detention period. She emphasized the need for thorough investigation to ensure all necessary evidence is gathered before murder charges are filed against Dagane. “The police have shown a prima facie case justifying the suspect’s 21-day detention to enable a thorough investigation into the mysterious murders of the three women,” Njagi ruled.

The magistrate also expressed concern over the increasing cases of violence against women, mentioning that over 90 women have lost their lives in the past 90 days. “This rising trend is troubling, and it highlights the urgency of comprehensive investigations into such cases,” Njagi remarked.

Dagane will remain in custody as detectives proceed with the investigation, with a mention of the case scheduled for December 2, 2024, to assess the progress and consider any further directions.
