Treasury Allocates Ksh200M For William Ruto’s Inauguration

The National Treasury has allocated Ksh200 million for the swearing-in ceremony of President-elect Dr William Ruto on September 13, 2022. This follows the Supreme Court’s affirmation of William Ruto’s election victory on Monday, September 5, 2022.

According to the Constitution, the President-elect must be sworn in seven days after the Supreme Court affirms the results of an election petition.

The Assumption of Office committee, which is planning the handover of power from President Uhuru Kenyatta to Dr Ruto, has already received funding from the Treasury. A 20-member committee for the assumption of the presidency is created by law, chaired by the Secretary to the Cabinet.

The State must proclaim the day of the swearing-in a public holiday under the terms of the legislation. The law also defines the precise times for various actions, noting that the oath is administered on the designated time between 10am and 2pm.

Along with the High Court registrar, the Chief Justice will administer the oath of office to the  President-elect.

President Uhuru Kenyatta would be expected to hand over the instruments of power, such as the Constitution and the sword of power, to the new Head of State once the President-elect and his deputy have both taken the oath of office.

Afterwards the, the departing President will proceed to State House to formally give over power to his successor.
