Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has implemented updated fees for government services, which include the replacement of identification cards (IDs), passports, as well as birth and death certificates.

In a memo directed to all department heads, county coordinators, national registry, and sub-county registrars, Kindiki highlighted that the implementation followed the conclusion of a public engagement process conducted from November 14, 2023, to December 5, 2023.

“As you are aware, on November 14, 2023, the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration published in Kenya gazette an intention to review fees, charges and levies regarding services offered by the state department for immigration.  “You may recall that the implementation of the said charges was January 1. However, the charges were to be subjected to public participation and therefore the state department conducted the public participation sessions,” the memo read in part.

Under the new directive, Kenyans applying for a replacement of their ID will pay KES 1,000 up from KES 100. those applying for an ID for the first time will pay KES 300, a service that was previously free of charge.
