A petition has been formally lodged before the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), urging the removal of Chief Justice Martha Koome from her current office.

The petitioner, Michael Kojo Otieno, asserts that Chief Justice Koome deviated from legal protocols while appointing individuals to the tax appeal tribunal.

The petition highlights, “During the selection of individuals to serve on the tax appeal tribunal, the judge failed to demonstrate honesty in the execution of powers vested in her by the Tax Appeal Tribunal Act, a responsibility grounded in the powers assigned to the judge as a judicial officer.”

In asserting his viewpoint, Kojo contends that the Chief Justice (CJ) demonstrated a lack of transparency and diligence, contending that she engaged in discrimination against individuals who sought board membership.

According to Kojo, the Chief Justice’s appointment of members beyond the specified requirement contravened section 4b of the Tax Appeal Tribunal Act.

In light of these arguments, Kojo maintains that the Chief Justice is unsuitable for the position and should be dismissed from office.
