Safaricom recognized among Forbes’ top 200 global employers

Kenyan telecommunications company lauded for its societal, environmental, and economic contributions

Safaricom, has secured a position among Forbes magazine’s top 200 global employers. Its recognition stems from its positive societal, environmental, and economic contributions. With the company ranking 164 out of 700 multinational firms from 43 nations in Forbes’ annual list of the World’s Best Employers.

This accolade positions the telecommunications company as the leading employer in Africa, following South Africa’s Absa Group and Standard Bank. Listed on the Nairobi Securities Exchange, Safaricom boasts regional dominance as the most profitable firm, reporting a net profit of KES 34.2 billion in the six months to September with a staff of 5,500.

The company’s commitment extends beyond financial success, with investments in social and environmental initiatives such as affordable internet access, support for education and health projects, and promotion of renewable energy sources.

Safaricom recently expanded its footprint to Ethiopia, where the company obtained a license to provide mobile services, adding 675 jobs, particularly in its Ethiopia subsidiary.

Forbes’ 2023 ranking was developed in collaboration with market research firm Statista with Over 170,000 employees in 50 countries, working for multinational companies and institutions, participating in the survey.

The ranking considered employee satisfaction, willingness to recommend their employers, employer image, social responsibility, diversity, and the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the work environment.
