Kenya’s AVLC Group has been chosen to spearhead the development of the inaugural smart city in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The groundbreaking Kasangulu Smart City project signifies a significant advancement in urban planning and development by seamlessly integrating cutting-edge technology with sustainable living practices.

Valued at KES 32.0 billion (USD 210.0 million), the Kasangulu Smart City initiative in Kinshasa spans over 40.0 hectares, encompassing contemporary features such as multi-story residences, a level four hospital, educational institutions, a train station, shopping centers, and recreational facilities. Its comprehensive design aligns with the escalating demand for high-quality housing and commercial spaces in the swiftly urbanizing East African region.

This endeavor comes at a pivotal juncture, coinciding with a surge in population and urbanization growth rates within the East African Community (EAC). The project aims not only to address the immediate requirements for housing and infrastructure but also to establish a new benchmark for future urban developments in the area. The call by MC Telecom Chairman Sam Yongo for cross-border investments within the EAC underscores the project’s potential to promote regional integration and socio-economic growth.

AVLC Group’s pivotal role in this initiative represents a noteworthy accomplishment for Kenyan enterprises, spotlighting the country’s increasing influence in advancing regional development. The smart city is anticipated to serve as a model for sustainable and technologically-driven urban development, meeting the needs of a burgeoning population while emphasizing environmental responsibility.

Boasting features such as an artificial beach and a water theme park, the city is poised to provide a distinctive blend of modern luxury and sustainable living.

As East Africa contends with the challenges of urbanization, the Kasangulu Smart City project emerges as a symbol of innovation and progress. Its success has the potential to inspire similar developments throughout the region, revolutionizing the approach to urbanization and establishing new standards for quality and sustainability in real estate development.
