The government has inaugurated a series of nationwide open days to facilitate the selection and purchase of 4,888 housing units under the Affordable Housing Program (AHP). The initiative, a cornerstone of the administration’s efforts to reduce the national housing deficit, offers prospective homeowners the chance to begin their ownership journey with a deposit, supplemented by access to mortgage facilities.
Charles Hinga, Principal Secretary for Housing and Urban Development, encouraged Kenyans to visit the 24 project sites across the country to inspect available units. “We would like to invite you all to attend the open days scheduled to take place in Machakos and across our 23 other projects countrywide to view the showhouses on site and the various housing units near completion,” said Mr. Hinga.
The Machakos Affordable Housing Project features 40 one-bedroom units, 60 two-bedroom units, and 60 three-bedroom units, designed with generous spaces for leisure and ample parking. Similar typologies are available across the 4,888 units nationwide, giving potential buyers diverse options based on their preferences and financial capabilities.
These open days aim to inform Kenyans about the AHP initiative while providing assistance on how to register on the BomaYangu portal. The portal serves as a gateway for applying for units and payment plans, enabling buyers to pay in installments over 25 years. Buyers can also choose to settle the full amount in one lump sum.
“Plans are at an advanced stage to launch more projects, providing even greater options to citizens seeking affordable housing,” noted the government.
