The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party has announced that it no longer recognizes Rigathi Gachagua as Deputy President, following his impeachment. UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar revealed that the party would soon convene to officially expel Gachagua from his role as the party’s deputy leader.
Speaking in Eldoret after a meeting with regional youth leaders, Omar emphasized that UDA is committed to national unity and leadership renewal. “Gachagua must accept that the political landscape has changed and move on,” Omar remarked. He pointed out that according to the UDA constitution, the Deputy President also serves as the party’s deputy leader, and with Gachagua’s impeachment, it is time to install new leadership.
Omar confirmed that UDA plans to replace Gachagua with Deputy President nominee Professor Kithure Kindiki. “We already recognize Kindiki as our Deputy President and deputy party leader, but we will officially install him soon,” Omar added. He stressed that the party will make these leadership changes to align with the current political climate and ensure continuity within the party.
During his remarks, Omar also discussed the government’s commitment to engaging young people in national development. “We are gathering feedback on how to improve policies that benefit young people, especially through opportunities provided by the Kenya Kwanza government,” he noted. Omar urged Kenyans to rally behind President William Ruto and support his vision for the country’s future.
In a related development, Trade and Industry Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria revealed that several political leaders, including NARC-Kenya Party Leader Martha Karua and Tujibebe Wakenya Party Leader William Kabogo, had advised Gachagua to form his own political party before the 2022 general elections. Kuria stated, “Martha Karua, Kabogo, and others warned Gachagua about going into elections without a political party.”
