Detectives have identified a murder suspect previously known as George Oduor Okoth as Robert Wakolo Okoth, following a police pursuit that led to his death. The suspect, linked to multiple violent robberies, was fatally shot by police, who recovered two firearms, including one belonging to the late Willis Ayieko.

The investigation, spearheaded by the DCI Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau, unraveled that the suspect’s true identity was Robert Wakolo Okoth. His father confirmed his real name after identifying the body preserved at the JOOTRH mortuary. According to the father, Robert had used various aliases, including George Oduor Okoth and Kim, to evade police. A national ID found in a police exhibit store for wanted criminals also verified his true identity.

Robert, aged 34, was connected to a series of violent crimes, notably the fatal shooting of Mpesa attendant Ms. Grace Awino Odero on January 27, 2024. During that incident, police apprehended one suspect and seized an AK-47 rifle reported stolen from a Ugandan police officer, along with a Toyota Axio (Reg. No. KDL 301P) used in the robbery.

Further investigations led police to Robert’s residence in the Rai area of Nyamasaria, Kisumu County. Acting on intelligence, detectives raided his home on May 3, 2024, where they discovered another AK-47 rifle, a magazine, and 36 rounds of live ammunition. Although Robert evaded capture, his 17-year-old brother, a suspected accomplice, was arrested and charged.

Robert Wakolo was also wanted by Kondele police for robbery with violence and possession of ammunition. Authorities continue to piece together his criminal activities, underscoring the threat he posed in the region.

“When we profiled him, his involvement in a string of violent crimes, including murder and robbery with violence, became apparent,” a DCI spokesperson commented.
