Moses Kuria, Cabinet Secretary for Investments, Trade, and Industry, has hinted that National Identity Cards (IDs) will be utilized as a free ticket within East African countries in the near future to simplify trade in the area.
Kuria outlined how they developed this concept after realizing that certain traders in the East African region cannot afford passports, limiting their ability to expand their enterprises abroad.
He continued by saying that the IDs would improve social cohesion among East Africans.

“The Regional Economic Blocs will work closely with the East Africa Community Committee (EACC) in making strategies that will act as the trading foundation for the African Union,” said the CS.
According to Kuria, the main goal of the meeting was to develop measures that the Committee can utilize to increase intra-African commerce from 13% to 50%.
Dr. Peter Mathuki, the Secretary General of the EAC, further stated that it is the duty of the EAC to see to it that there is peace in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
Mathuki mentioned two processes—political and military—that he believes will help bring peace to the DRC.

Since taking office, CS Kuria has been aggressive in finding trade and investment partners, potentially opening up new markets for Kenya.
This also comes after their recent meeting between Canada’s Minister of International Trade, Export Promotion, Small Business, and Economic Development, Mary Ng,
Minister Ng emphasized Canada’s dedication to strengthening its relationship with Kenya, particularly by expanding our two countries’ trade links in the fields of clean technology, Internet and communications technology, education, services, and infrastructure.
