127 magistrates have been appointed by Kenya’s Chief Justice Martha Koome to hear cases of economic crime and corruption and render decisions in those matters.

In a Gazette Notice that was published on Friday, October 14, Koome stated that the appointment would hasten the hearing and resolution of corruption cases that have gone on in court for a very long time.

The Chief Justice previously said that there weren’t enough judges and magistrates in the nation, a cause of the delay.

“The appointed magistrates will preside over cases relating to corruption and economic crimes in the areas of jurisdiction of their current court stations and future stations deployed from time to time,” she said.

The Chief Justice added that the appointment would take effect on October 3, 2022.
