President William Ruto fulfilled a request from his former classmate, Emily Jepkemei, by assisting her in reclaiming ownership of a contentious 20-acre parcel near Eldoret Airport. Jepkemei is one of five claimants entangled in a prolonged legal dispute over the property.

Earlier this week, a video captured Jepkemei engaging with President Ruto during his Eldoret tour, seeking his intervention in the land dispute. She implored the president to aid her in regaining control of the disputed 20-acre plot.

During a speech in Uasin Gishu County on November 13, 2023, Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi was summoned by President Ruto at the same event. According to Jepkemei, Sudi was directed to address the ownership disputes surrounding the property. Jepkemei, revealing her connection as a former classmate of President Ruto, informed him of the complexities and mentioned that Sudi was knowledgeable about the property’s ownership conflicts.

Responding swiftly, Ruto summoned Sudi and instructed him to resolve the matter promptly. On the subsequent Wednesday, Sudi led a group of youth in demolishing structures on the disputed land. This action stirred controversy among the land’s occupants, who argued that the MP had violated a court ruling that recognized another local resident as the legitimate owner.

“We possess a valid title deed. We pursued legal recourse, and the court ruled in favor of maintaining the existing status quo,” explained one resident. “While we have presented our legal documents, the opposing party has yet to produce theirs. The politician now accuses us of being criminals.”

In response, Sudi asserted that he would not allow perceived corruption within the Eldoret court system to prevail. The legislator challenged anyone challenging his actions to confront him directly on the matter.
