In a national address today, President William Ruto voiced serious concerns over the recent spate of protests, highlighting instances of excessive, unlawful, and dangerous conduct. Emphasizing the importance of justice, the President urged criminal justice agencies to ensure the release of individuals who have been wrongfully accused or implicated.

The President’s call for action comes in the wake of widespread reports of police brutality. He stressed the need for the National Police Service to exercise its powers responsibly, urging officers to adhere to their mandate with professionalism and effectiveness.

“I call upon the National Police Service to use its mandate responsibly, professionally, and effectively,” President Ruto stated.

This appeal underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring that any violations by police officers are swiftly addressed through due process, aiming to restore public trust in the police force and uphold the highest standards of integrity.

President Ruto also addressed the destruction and disruption caused by the protests, noting the significant impact on the lives and properties of many innocent Kenyans.

“Over the last one month, the livelihood and property of many innocent people have also been destroyed,” he remarked.

In response to these hardships, the President assured that the government would support affected individuals on their path to recovery, emphasizing a commitment to helping citizens rebuild their lives and communities.

President Ruto’s statements reflect a dual approach: holding those accountable for misconduct while providing necessary aid and support to those adversely affected. The President’s remarks highlight the delicate balance the government seeks to maintain between enforcing the law and ensuring the protection and support of its citizens.
