Law enforcement officials in the Embakasi area conducted a successful rescue operation on Sunday night, liberating 16 children from captivity within a residence located in Nyando area of Kayole.
A detailed report obtained by Sharp Daily, states that the alert was raised by Daniel Odongo, a dedicated children protection officer serving in the Embakasi Central constituency.
Odongo promptly alerted the authorities after uncovering the presence of the children confined within a property situated in the Nyando area.
Subsequently, law enforcement personnel sprang into action, resulting in the apprehension of two individuals: Linet Akinyi, a Kenyan citizen, and Isaac Mwanjeka, a Tanzanian national.
The suspects, upon interrogation, failed to provide a satisfactory explanation regarding the circumstances surrounding the children’s presence under their care. Notably, the minors were discovered accommodated within a modest two-room rental residence.
Upon interviewing some of the residents of the apartment where the children were confined, some of them said the suspects had once told them they help orphans by giving them shelter and other basic needs at the apartment.
” We used to go to the same church with the woman. One time she asked the church to help her as she ran a children’s home in Kayole. The church helped her once in a while but recently stopped because for some reason she stopped coming to church,” one resident said.
Initial investigations suggest a possible intention to traffic the children to an undisclosed destination. As inquiries continue, both suspects remain in police custody, awaiting further legal proceedings.
The swift intervention of the authorities underscores the critical importance of proactive measures in safeguarding vulnerable members of society from potential exploitation and harm.
