The Nairobi County Government has unveiled a revised public transport route network, introducing 89 new bus routes for Public Service Vehicles (PSVs) accessing the Central Business District (CBD). This update, which was officially gazetted on December 20, 2024, marks the revocation of the previous routes listed in a 2017 gazette notice.

According to the County Executive Member for Mobility and Works, the new routes are part of an effort to enhance accessibility and improve the flow of public transport within Nairobi. “The revised Core Bus Route Network now governs Public Transport Vehicles operating to, from, and within Nairobi City County,” the notice stated. The move is seen as a step towards better management of Nairobi’s transport system, addressing the growing demand for efficient movement within the city.

One of the most significant new routes is the Kikuyu Town to Eastleigh Section 3 route, which will pass through several key areas, including Kikuyu Road, Waithaka, Ngong Road, Junction Mall, Adams Arcade, and Kenyatta Avenue, among others. The return journey will follow Race Course, Kencom, and St. Peters Clavers Church. This route aims to connect the outskirts of Nairobi to central areas, improving the reach of PSVs to more neighborhoods.

Additionally, two routes from Dandora to Kibera/Olympic have been re-gazetted, with return trips terminating at GPO, Ambassadeur, and Ronald Ngala Street. Other significant re-gazetted routes include services from Eastleigh Main to Yaya Centre, Githurai to Kangemi, and JKIA to Westlands loop, which are expected to further enhance the city’s public transport network.
