In the County Performance Index 2023 report recently released by the Infotrak Research and Consulting firm, Kirinyaga County has emerged as a frontrunner in the effective utilization of technology and the proximity of government services to its citizens.

The county achieved an impressive score of 55.0 percent in technology usage and 54.0 percent in service accessibility, setting a noteworthy example for other regions to follow.

One of the key drivers behind Kirinyaga’s success is its robust commitment to technological training. The county has launched digital training programs aimed at empowering young individuals to tap into job opportunities available through online platforms.

Notably, last year saw the inauguration of a KES 53.0 million workshop at Kirinyaga University, funded by the National Research Fund. This cutting-edge facility is equipped with modern Information, Communication Technology (ICT) and engineering equipment used by students for research purposes.

Kirinyaga County also stands as a testament to the power of technology in governance. Through the implementation of state-of-the-art solutions, the county has streamlined numerous services, making them easily accessible with just a few clicks. In March 2023, the county government launched a significant cashless revenue mobilization campaign titled “Mapema Ndio Best,” aiming to boost revenue collection and prevent fund misappropriation.

Governor Waiguru encouraged traders and property owners to adopt a cashless-based culture by paying County fees, such as parking, land rates, produce cess, business permits, and market stall fees, among others, through electronic payment methods. This transition to online services not only saves time but also ensures the effective utilization of government resources.

Furthermore, Kirinyaga County’s success extends beyond technology into the physical accessibility of government services. The county has taken proactive measures to ensure that essential services are within easy reach of its citizens. An example of this is the “Fertilizer Mashinani” initiative, where the county government opened satellite depots for farmers to conveniently access their supplies. Governor Waiguru announced the establishment of eight depots strategically located to provide subsidized fertilizers to farmers, minimizing travel distances and enhancing the efficiency of service delivery.

This achievement reflects Kirinyaga County’s unwavering commitment to enhancing the lives of its citizens. By leveraging technology and ensuring the proximity of services, Kirinyaga County has established a precedent for other regions in Kenya and beyond. The impact of this approach goes beyond mere statistics; it signifies a substantial improvement in the quality of life for the people of Kirinyaga.

Citizens can now access vital services promptly, allowing them to focus on their personal and professional growth without unnecessary bureaucratic hurdles. Kirinyaga County’s success story serves as an inspiration for the wider community.
