Kenya Railways is set to revolutionize travel for passengers with the launch of its new premium class service on the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR). The inaugural journey is scheduled for today, Wednesday, October 2, departing from Nairobi Terminus at 3 PM.

This luxury offering comes with a notable price tag of KES 12,000 for a one-way ticket, prompting varied reactions from the public. Tickets can be booked through the Kenya Railways online platform, and the service is anticipated to attract a diverse range of travelers looking for an elevated experience.

In an official announcement on X, Kenya Railways stated, “We are introducing premium class onto Madaraka Express from October 2, 2024, from Nairobi Terminus to Mombasa Terminus.” This new service aims to provide an exclusive travel experience, featuring fully reclining seats, ample legroom, and a range of amenities designed for comfort and privacy.

“The premium coach offers privacy and exclusivity, ensuring passengers can work, relax, or simply enjoy the beautiful scenery,” the company added. This emphasis on comfort and a tailored experience highlights Kenya Railways’ commitment to enhancing passenger satisfaction.

Kenya Railways has now established a three-tier service on its SGR trains, which includes Premium Class at KES 12,000, First Class at KES 4,500, and Economy Class at KES 1,500. This strategic pricing is designed to cater to various customer segments, enhancing the overall appeal of train travel in Kenya.

“The launch of the premium service marks a significant milestone in Kenya’s railway sector,” said a spokesperson for Kenya Railways. “We believe this offering will attract a new segment of travelers who seek comfort and exclusivity in their journeys.”
