Technology company Huawei has started a campaign to increase the usage of renewable energy sources like solar energy in Africa.

Huawei Digital Power, the company’s subsidiary for renewable energy, aims to close the market gap by addressing the continent’s energy demands and implementing solutions for renewable energy generation, transmission, distribution, use, and storage.

The launch, which took place at the Huawei FusionSolar Channel Partner Summit 2022 in Johannesburg, South Africa, is supported by the greater market share the country now holds in terms of solar energy resources while having only 1% of the world’s installed solar capacity.

Speaking at the Summit, Xia Hesheng, president of Huawei Digital Power Sub-Saharan Africa, said the business is dedicated to promoting solar energy consumption in order for the continent to meet its renewable energy targets.

With a population of over 1 billion people in Africa, compared to the global average of 90.5%, less than half of them have access to electricity. By incorporating digital solutions for solar energy production, transmission, distribution, use, and storage, Huawei hopes to close the gap.

More than 30 channel partners from Sub-Saharan Africa attended the Huawei FusionSolar Channel Partner Summit 2022, where they emphasized the significance of creating the ecosystem to address Africa’s energy demands with renewable and solar photovoltaic energy (PV).

ICT provider and longtime Huawei partner Hein Engelbrecht provided an update on how the two businesses are forging a joint growth path.

“Mustek and Huawei’s partnership is built on trust and shared understanding. We believe that these new ingredients will go a long way to ensure us being the choice for solar solutions in Sub-Saharan Africa within the next five years,” said Engelbrecht.
