Vincent Kemosi, the former West Mugirango MP, has turned down his nomination as the High Commissioner to Ghana, citing pressing personal and family issues as the reason.
Mr. Kemosi, who was set to undergo vetting by the Defence, Intelligence, and Foreign Relations committee on Tuesday, opted to decline the invitation by submitting a letter expressing his decision.
He was among the nominees that were to be vetted by the National Assembly’s Committee on Defence, Intelligence, and Foreign Relations on Tuesday. The Committee was forced to adjourn the morning session and will resume sitting in the afternoon.
“I will not appear before the said committee at the time and venue specified for approval hearing. This has been occasioned by personal and compelling family matters which after taking into consideration will not allow me to take up the position of High Commissioner to Ghana as nominated by His Excellency the president on March 9, 2024,” Mr Kemosi stated in the letter.
Following this development, the Committee will consider the nomination of Abdi Aden Korio (Muscat, Oman) and Gertrude Angote (UMEP, Nairobi).
Aden Mohamed Jeddah (Saudi Arabia) and Kenneth Mulimo Nganga (Abu Dhabi, UAE) appeared before the vetting panel in the morning.
For the second consecutive week, the Committee has been conducting vetting sessions for President William Ruto’s ambassadorial nominees in preparation for their official swearing-in.
Last week, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) raised red flags regarding three out of the 27 ambassadorial candidates due to unresolved integrity issues.
EACC revealed that there was a recommendation to press charges against Joash Arthur Maangi and others in connection with a matter concerning the NHC Housing Project. The case was referred to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for consideration, who subsequently returned the file to EACC for further investigation.
These investigations are currently ongoing, as stated by EACC regarding the former Kisii governor, Joash Maangi, during his appearance before the departmental committee.
