Former Makutano Junction star Charlie Ouda passes away at 38

Former Makutano Junction actor and Know Zone presenter Charlie Ouda passed away on Sunday, February 4, at the age of 38, as announced by his family in an official statement.

The family, along with his fiancée, Ciru Muriuki, has urged the public to respect their privacy during this challenging time and allow them the space to mourn the untimely loss.

The statement reads, “We appeal to all to give his fiancée Ciru and the Oudas space to grieve this unfathomable loss. More details will be given in due course.”

Charlie Ouda’s demise occurred merely six months after he had become engaged to former BBC presenter Ciru Muriuki.

Renowned for his versatility, Ouda was not only a popular actor but also excelled in various roles such as director, songwriter, filmmaker, editor, scriptwriter, voice-over artist, event manager, and television show host.

His notable contributions include hosting the children’s show Know Zone on Citizen TV and acting in the KBC drama series Makutano Junction, which ran for over 10 seasons.

Ouda’s impressive acting career spanned over 11 years, commencing with his debut at the Kenya National Theatre in Eric Wainaina’s ‘Lwanda, Man of Stone.’

Having trained at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in New York, Ouda garnered recognition for his work.

In 2016, his film “Who Are You?” secured the Best Director Prize and the 72-Hour Shoot-Out Judges Choice Award at the Asian American Film Lab Awards.

Moreover, he received accolades at the Kalasha International Award for Best Television Host and the Kenya Theatre Awards Roll of Honour for the best performance by a male actor in a monologue.
