Former Director General of the Communications Authority, Francis Wangusi, is Dead.

He passed away on Wednesday afternoon March 1, 2023, at Nairobi Hospital, where he had been receiving treatment for a while.

“It is with profound sadness that we have received news on the passing on of former CA Director General Mr. Francis Wangusi which occurred this afternoon at the Nairobi Hospital where he had been receiving treatment.” The Authority announced on Twitter

Mr. Wangusi oversaw significant milestones in the ICT industry, including the transition to digital television broadcasting and the sector’s exponential growth during his tenure from 2012 until his retirement on 22nd August 2019.

He served as acting CA boss for a year before being confirmed as the substantive CA Director. The CA Board extended his term in 2015, and he served in that capacity until his resignation.

Wangusi was replaced by Mercy Wanjau, who up until her appointment in an acting capacity served as the Authority’s Director of Legal Services and Board Secretary.
