The Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation (REREC) has launched a project to distribute electricity across Manda. This initiative promises profound benefits to local institutions, including schools and hospitals, while also boosting Manda’s key economic sectors: agriculture and quarry mining.
Charo Kupata, the Chair of the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) for the area, expressed optimism about the project’s potential to drive growth and improve living conditions. “Electricity will be a huge help to both sectors and Manda at large,” he noted. “It will enable our residents to expand and advance their businesses, making a significant difference in their daily lives.”
Manda’s economy primarily revolves around agriculture and quarry mining, both of which stand to gain significantly from this electrification project. Access to reliable electricity will allow farmers to utilize modern agricultural techniques and equipment, thereby increasing productivity and yield. For the quarry mining sector, electricity will facilitate the operation of machinery, improving efficiency and output.
Local businesses are expected to experience substantial growth with the advent of electricity. Small-scale entrepreneurs, artisans, and shop owners will be able to extend their working hours and improve the quality of their products and services. This development is likely to attract new investments, creating jobs and boosting the local economy.
In addition to economic and social benefits, the electrification project will also help address the issue of insecurity in Manda. The erection of street lights is a critical component of the project, aimed at enhancing safety and security in the area. Well-lit streets will deter criminal activities, making residents feel safer and more secure in their communities.
The residents of Manda have welcomed the project with enthusiasm. For many, the prospect of having reliable electricity represents a significant improvement in their quality of life. Local business owner Mary Kamau shared her excitement, saying, “With electricity, I can keep my shop open longer and store perishable goods without worry. This will definitely help my business grow.”
The project is slated to be completed within three months.
