Rising demand for toothpaste tablets propels market growth in East Africa

Terrenus Distribution East Africa Limited, a boutique investment and distribution company, has introduced Eezi Oral Hygiene, a product known as toothpaste tablets, which are activated by saliva and do not require water for use.

Manufactured in Kenya, these tablets will be available throughout Africa. In an effort to localize production, Eezi Oral Hygiene Brands Limited has partnered with Laboratory & Allied, a local pharmaceutical firm, with support from Goodlife Pharmacy.

Toothpaste tablets represent a groundbreaking advancement in oral care, providing a convenient and eco-friendly alternative to traditional toothpaste. These compact, solid tablets, often imbued with mint or other natural flavors, are meant to be chewed or crushed between the teeth. Upon contact with saliva, they produce a foamy paste suitable for brushing the teeth. Unlike conventional toothpaste, toothpaste tablets come in minimal, recyclable, or compostable packaging, significantly reducing plastic waste.

The surge in toothpaste tablet popularity is driven by several factors. Recent market research reveals that the global Toothpaste Tablets market, valued at USD 28.4 million in 2022, is projected to reach USD 50.4 million by 2028, boasting an impressive Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 10.0 percent during 2022-2028.

At the core of this toothpaste tablet revolution lies an escalating concern for the environment and a heightened emphasis on sustainability. With plastic pollution levels reaching alarming proportions, consumers are actively seeking eco-friendly alternatives. Toothpaste tablets, with their minimal packaging and reduced plastic waste, have emerged as a viable solution.

Furthermore, the COVID-19 pandemic, despite disruptions to tablet production and supply chains, paradoxically contributed to their popularity. During the pandemic, healthcare professionals discouraged the use of old toothbrushes and tongue cleaners, prompting individuals to explore alternative oral hygiene methods, including toothpaste tablets.

The surge in popularity is also attributed to the ascent of online retail. In 2021, online retail accounted for a significant revenue share of over 48.4 percent, and this dominance is expected to persist with the highest projected growth rate from 2022 to 2030. The proliferation of online retail platforms has played a pivotal role in this success.

As more consumers shift their shopping habits to the online sphere, companies have seized the opportunity to expand their digital presence. Increasing internet penetration has not only bolstered sales but has also significantly heightened awareness about these eco-conscious alternatives. Toothpaste tablet manufacturers have harnessed the internet’s power to educate consumers about the adverse effects of plastic pollution, creating a ripple effect within the industry.

The ascent of toothpaste tablets signifies more than just a market trend; it is a testament to evolving consumer attitudes. Consumers no longer settle for mere convenience; they seek products that align with their values. With toothpaste tablets, consumers gain both a convenient, travel-friendly oral care solution and an opportunity to contribute to a cleaner, healthier planet. As awareness about the environmental impact of traditional toothpaste tubes spreads, more individuals are making the transition to these innovative tablets, thus positively impacting both oral hygiene practices and the environment.
