The Royal House of the Netherlands has announced that King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima will embark on a historic state visit to Kenya in March 2025. The visit, scheduled from Tuesday, March 18 to Thursday, March 20, will be conducted at the invitation of President William Ruto, marking the first-ever state visit to Kenya by the Dutch royals.

In a statement issued on January 7, the Royal House highlighted the significance of the visit, emphasizing that it underscores the strong and enduring ties between the two nations. “This visit reaffirms the solid relationship and aims to explore new partnerships while strengthening existing ones,” the statement read.

The visit will focus on enhancing diplomatic relations between Kenya and the Netherlands, with an emphasis on both countries’ close collaboration within the United Nations and other international platforms. These shared goals include advancing democracy, the rule of law, peace, and security. Additionally, Kenya and the Netherlands are committed to addressing global challenges such as climate change and food security, which are expected to feature prominently during the discussions.

Kenya’s growing global influence and economic importance were also acknowledged in the statement. The Royal House noted that both nations serve as key hubs and gateways to large regions, further solidifying the importance of their bilateral relationship. This visit offers a chance to explore new avenues for cooperation while continuing to build on the foundation of existing partnerships.
