DP Gachagua: Ignore polls hustlers are happy with Ruto’s leadership

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has asked people to ignore what the Trends and Insights for Africa (TIFA) polls said about hustlers not being happy with President Ruto’s leadership.

While speaking on Friday during the launch of the construction of the Riruta-Ngong railway, Gachagua raised an alarm about how polls can suggest that hustlers are dissatisfied with Ruto’s regime, while at the same time saying UDA was the most popular party. He argued that if people were not happy with Ruto’s regime, then UDA would have been the least popular party in Kenya.

“Who is the leader of UDA? Isn’t it the president? So if UDA is the most popular party, then how come the same opinion poll is saying something different? …. These same people gave an opinion poll in 2007 saying Raila would win the elections. Did he win? In 2013, 2017, and 2022, they said, He will win. Did he win?” Gachagua asked.

He further urged people not to be persuaded by the opinion polls.

According to the TIFA opinion polls released on Wednesday, hustlers are disappointed in Ruto’s government. The same polls also revealed that UDA was the most popular political party with 31%, compared to Raila’s Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), which had a popularity rate of 22%.
