Apple weighs Stablecoins integration for Apple Pay,as Cytonn push digital dollars mainstream

Big Tech and African fintechs are quietly building the rails for stablecoin powered everyday payments

Apple is reportedly weighing whether to bring stablecoin support to Apple Pay, a move that would let the payments platform handle crypto backed dollar transactions alongside traditional cards. Apple has yet to confirm which stablecoin issuers it might partner with or when, if ever, such a feature would launch.

The interest fits a broader pattern among large technology companies. Apple, X, Google, and Airbnb have all been reported to be holding early discussions with crypto companies about integrating stablecoins into their payment systems, largely to cut transaction costs and simplify crossborder payments. Some infrastructure for this already exists: stablecoin backed cards can now be added to Apple Pay, letting users pay anywhere contactless Visa cards are accepted, with stablecoins settling the transaction behind the scenes through partners such as StraitsX.

Samsung has moved further at Galaxy Unpacked 2026 in London, Samsung announced plans to integrate native stablecoin support into Samsung Wallet, with product manager Lee Dinham telling the audience the wallet “will expand beyond cash and savings” to embrace “new forms of digital value, including stablecoins.” An on-stage demo showed a stablecoin account holding a USDC balance, with options to send, receive, and top up, protected by Samsung Knox security. The feature is planned to roll out across 61 countries, though Samsung has not named a launch date or confirmed which partners or coins will be supported.

Stablecoin adoption isn’t limited to Silicon Valley and Seoul. In Kenya, Cytonn Asset Managers has launched a Digital Dollar feature through the Cytonn Wallet that lets investors deposit USDC directly into its money market fund, offering a faster and cheaper alternative to multiple currency conversions and traditional cross-border banking channels. The company frames it as a tool for the diaspora in particular, at a time when diaspora remittances into Kenya reached a record $5.04 billion in 2025, with the United States as the largest source, accounting for 54% of inflows. Every deposit is screened through real time anti money laundering monitoring to meet compliance standards.

These moves suggest stablecoins are edging closer to ordinary consumer payments, even as regulatory and technical details remain unsettled.
