The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has partnered with Metrotrans East Africa Limited and Super Metro Limited to introduce new bus routes from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) to various key locations in Nairobi.

These routes now feature state-of-the-art 7th-generation electric commuter buses, showcasing the alliance’s commitment to innovation, sustainable transportation, and enhanced passenger services.

Mr. Mohamed Daghar, Principal Secretary of the State Department for Transport, fervently endorsed the electric buses, emphasizing their environmental benefits, cost-effectiveness, and quieter operations.

These attributes not only contribute to a more eco-friendly planet but also foster a peaceful atmosphere for both passengers and airport personnel. “It’s not just about transporting people; it’s about doing so sustainably and harmoniously with our environment,” he emphasized.

Hon. Caleb Kositany, Chairman of the KAA Board, proudly announced the attainment of Level 2 Airport Carbon Accreditation from ACI for four major airports. This accomplishment underscores their unwavering dedication to reducing carbon emissions and promoting environmental sustainability within the aviation sector.

As part of their eco-friendly initiatives, KAA staff are actively engaged in a nationwide tree-planting campaign, aligning with the national objective of planting 2 billion trees. This comprehensive approach highlights their commitment not only to efficient travel but also to the overall environmental well-being.

The JKIA Airport Manager emphasized the pivotal role these electric buses play in the airport’s broader vision.

“Beyond their eco-friendliness, these buses represent a significant stride toward our goals of environmental stewardship and offering a seamless, eco-friendly travel experience. We’re not merely upgrading our transportation; we’re revolutionizing the travel landscape,” he enthusiastically shared.

Nonetheless, the impact of these new buses extends beyond their eco-friendliness. They have been designed with inclusivity in mind. The introduction of features such as wheelchair ramps ensures that these services are accessible to all, promoting a more inclusive society where every individual, regardless of their physical abilities, can conveniently access public transport.
