Safaricom launches “Lipa na Data”

Safaricom clients will now be able to purchase goods and services using 5G bundles. The company has unveiled a new payment model that will see its post-pay and pre-paid subscribers access the service with at least 5 GB of bundles. Users will be required to dial the USSD code *544*34# through their Safaricom lines and will then receive a prompt message to pay the amount keyed in via till numbers or pay bill.

In the payment model, Kshs 500 is equivalent to 7.7 GB, while Kshs 2000 is equivalent to 30.8 GB. Safaricom has recently been on a charm offensive to hold a tight grip on its customers and attract more customers to use its service by rolling out new solutions. The company had also launched a new product that allowed clients to repay their bills using Okoa Jahazi and Bonga Points, as well as buy smartphones.

However, upon re-evaluation and checking the eligibility, it is only limited to people on post-pay with 5GB and above data and people on pre-paid with Non-expiring bundles above 5GB. If a customer has oversubscribed and wants to redeem the bundles as cash instead of them expiring or constantly needing to pay monthly, or if they want to quit post-pay, this is a service for them.
