Raila Odinga Mmebers of parliament

Azimio leader Raila Odinga has demanded the resignation of Azimio-One Kenya Members of Parliament (MPs) who met President William Ruto at the statehouse.

Speaking in Machakos during a parliamentary group meeting with Azimio MPs, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party leader said such members are traitors and do not deserve to dine with the rest of the party.

“These members who have defected from the Azimio coalition need to resign their positions and go. These people must be seen for what they are. Traitors, in the course of our revolution,” said Raila.

Raila also castigated what she termed as a ‘dangerous phenomenon’, where politicians are rushing to the president in the name of discussing development matters, saying that times when leaders had to soothe the executive in exchange for development projects are long gone.

“There is a huge, dangerous phenomenon that members of the assembly are approaching the executive supposedly for development in their constituencies. Under the current constitutional dispensation, resources are allocated by parliament,” said Raila.

“The days when members of parliament used to go and see the president for development are gone. If you want to see the president as a person in the statehouse, go. But if you want to talk about matters that affect the party, you must be given permission.”

Raila was protesting a move where ODM-allied MPs visited president William Ruto and promised to work at home, a move that was not received positively by the party’s loyalists.

The bad blood between members who met the president and other members played out openly during the parliamentary group meeting, where Lang’ata MP Felix Odiwour alias Jalang’o was barred from attending the meeting.

Last week, members of the Jubilee Party, who are party to the Azimio-One Kenya, met Ruto at the statehouse and assured their loyalty, an event that came as a big blow to the opposition leader.
