The government, through the Ministry of Agriculture, is in the race to create a database for all Kenyan farmers to ensure seamless service delivery, such as the distribution of subsidized fertilizer.
The data collection process began on January 4, with the training of Trainers (ToTs) who are expected to train farmers in rural areas to ensure the success of the program.
According to the Agriculture CS Mithika Linturi, who graced the opening event, the move will ensure that the government has all the data needed from farmers, which will help the government identify needs and handle them accordingly with the aim of increasing productivity.

“Today, we are training trainers of trainers so that they are able to go to rural areas to train others who will train farmers on the ongoing registration process,” said Linturi.
“I am sure that if we continue with this initiative, we will be able to collect crucial data that will benefit our country, and with the aid of the National Government, we will make ensure that productivity increases in the next year and 18 months looking into the current strategies put in place,”
The CS also vehemently rooted for the program, saying that Kenya was in a position to produce adequate food for its population, and that would only be possible with such initiatives.
“We have found it important to carry out this initiative to ensure that we help farmers produce enough food by serving our farmers through the subsidy program for fertilizer, seeds and any other assistance they may need,” he said.
“We want to avoid the shame of having famine every time and a country that seeks aid every time. This is the reason we have programs such as these,”
