Paul Russo, the group chief executive of Kenya Commercial Bank, has been appointed to serve on the Leadership Council for the United Nations Environment Programme Finance (UNEP-FI).
He joins with other world leaders to mainstream and strengthen sustainability integration in the finance sector.

“KCB Group CEO Paul Russo has been appointed to serve on the United Nations Environment Programme Finance (UNEP-FI) Leadership Council, joining other global leaders in mainstreaming and deepening sustainability integration across the financial industry,” wrote KCB group on Twitter.
The UNEP FI Leadership Council brings together a group of CEOs and chairpersons of institutions who have been elected to serve on the UNEP-FI Global Steering Committee, the board of the Principles for Responsible Banking, or the board of the Principles for Sustainable Insurance.
Eric Usher, the head of UNEP FI, expressed his appreciation for Russo’s appointment and noted the council’s increased ability to effect change.

“We are pleased to add a new member to our advisory body which is mandated to turbocharge sustainable ambition across the global financial system and strengthen the unique partnership between the UN and the finance community,” Usher said.
According to Russo, his appointment will help him mobilize the financial industry in East Africa and promote sustainable finance development. He claimed it will serve as a platform to further integrate sustainability into the entire sector.
