The three-member committee set up to investigate the murder of Pakistani journalist Arshad Sharif has dropped the probe.

The committee, led by former Pakistani judge Abdul Shakoor Paracha, explained that it abandoned the investigation based on a variety of reasons, including demands from sharifs mother, Riffat Ara Alvi.

Other reasons included an original request made by Alvi to the country’s Chief Justice of Pakistan, Umar Ata Bandial, as well as a lack of media representation in the committee.

Sharif’s mother had earlier written a letter to the Chief Justice of Pakistan, requesting the formation of a powerful team to ensure that the issue does not become controversial. Alvi claimed that the commission should be made up of Supreme Court justices and should work to determine the murderer’s real motive.

“Only knowing the real motive and criminals and bringing them to justice will end the agony of Shaheed Arshad Sharif’s family and his journalist fraternity. Otherwise, I will rest my case to Allah awaiting His justice. I hope my letter receives due attention given the gravity of the case and is not ignored like my Shaheed son’s letter written to the authorities informing about threats to his life,” stated Alvi in the letter.

The famous journalist had earlier expressed his disapproval of the current political trends in Pakistan. With a focus on investigative reporting journalism, Sharif covered numerous political events in his homeland for both local and international news outlets.

Sharif, a vocal critic of the Pakistani leadership, departed the nation earlier this year as a result of several sedition charges that were raised against him.

The news of his passing away was broken by his wife Javeria Siddique through social media.
