President William Ruto on Tuesday, October 18 2022 inspected the Kings Serenity Affordable Housing project in Ongata Rongai.

Ruto reiterated his administration’s commitment to boosting the number of homeowners in the nation, saying he has plans to erect at least 2,000 homes annually.

“Half of those houses will be under the categories of affordable and social housing. We are going to work with the private sector developers and pension institutions and we are arranging finances for the purposes of mortgage,” he stated.

The president further stated that he would petition parliament to draft rules that would revive the Housing Fund, allowing Kenyans to purchase homes with the support of the government. He continued by saying that the housing project will offer job chances to young people whose skills and knowledge are needed in construction.

In order to make homeownership a reality for low-income earners, Ruto stated at the beginning of this month that the government would streamline the affordable housing program by collaborating with lawmakers and development partners to identify the most practical way to carry out the affordable housing plan.

To improve the quality of life for all Kenyans, the Government has been pushing for affordable housing projects for the past ten years. This is in accordance with Section 43(1)(b) of the Constitution and the Social Pillar of Vision 2030.
